Introduction

In the season premiere of the OC, Ryan Atwood, played by Benjamin McKenzie, has just moved into the lavish Newport Beach home of Sandy and Kirsten Cohen (Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan). He’s been taken in by the couple to help him avoid the gang violence that has surrounded his life since he was abandoned by his mother at five years old. There are hard times ahead for Captain Underpants, including a stint in juvie, but life couldn’t be better on this sunny California day. As Ryan unpacks in his new room, Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) knocks on the door.

There is always something about Olivia Wilde that reminds me of my first gay love not so much physically as something intangible, electric, and the first time I saw her on The OC in 2003 my heart fluttered. Wilde’s character had long flowing dark hair, a piercing gaze, and an edgy chic fashion sense. There is not much time for chit-chat before Ryan receives a phone call from his brother trying to escape their abusive dad

In the Season Premiere of the OC

In the season premiere of the OC, Ryan Atwood, played by Benjamin McKenzie, has just moved into the lavish Newport Beach home of Sandy and Kirsten Cohen (Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan). He’s been living in a foster home for years with his brother Trey (Seth Cohen), but now that he’s legally an adult, he wants to move out. He tells his foster parents that he wants them to adopt him so they can be his legal parents.

Avoid the Gang Violence

The couple helped him avoid the gang violence that has surrounded his life since he was abandoned by his mother at five years old.

  • Ryan’s mother abandoned him when he was 5 years old, and he has been trying to avoid gang violence ever since.

There are Hard times ahead for Captain Underpants

There are hard times ahead for Captain Underpants, including a stint in juvie, but life couldn’t be better on this sunny California day.

Ryan has been abandoned by his mother and taken in by Sandy and Kirsten Cohen who have decided to raise him as their son. Along with his new friends Bartholomew “Bart” Stilton and Georgina “Gabby” Jones (whom he met on the bus), Ryan has been given a room with bunk beds so he can sleep in peace without having to share them with anyone else.

Ryan Unpacks in his new Room

As Ryan unpacks in his new room, Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) knocks on the door. She is a spoiled rich girl who believes she deserves love and attention because of her looks, which is why she makes up for it by being rude to everyone around her. She’s also bisexual and sometimes even more than that!

Marissa has long dark hair and a piercing gaze that is enough to make anyone uncomfortable at first glance; but once you get past that, your eyes will be drawn to her edgy chic fashion sense.

Olivia Wilde Reminds me of My First Gay Love

Olivia Wilde is a bisexual actress and the star of The OC. She played Rachel McGuire, a bisexual bad girl with an edge. In 2003 when she was just starting as an actress, I was in high school and caught up on every single episode of The OC that week all 156 of them (they were on hiatus).

The Oc was one of those shows where you couldn’t turn away from it if you wanted to; even if your parents were watching TV with you or if they weren’t home at all! We used to watch it together on Sunday mornings after church services ended so we could get back home before dinner time rolled around again.”

Wilde’s Character had long Flowing Dark Hair

Olivia Wilde played the role of Alex Kelly, a bisexual character who was the love interest of Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) in The OC. The show’s creators knew they wanted to cast someone who could play up the edginess and sexuality of Alex’s character. They even wrote it into their script: “The reason that we were able to do this was that we had Olivia Wilde on board,” creator Josh Schwartz told Entertainment Weekly in 2010. “She is such an amazing actress and she brings so much depth and dimensionality to her roles.”

Wilde’s portrayal was not just about being it also showed viewers how different kinds of people live together without conflict or drama; how things can be more complicated than first meets the eye; and how relationships are built on trust rather than lust alone.

Ryan is surprised to hear from his brother, who has just escaped their abusive father. His brother wants to escape but feels he can’t leave without help. He says the only way he can get out of there is if Ryan can pay a ransom for him.

Marissa is not happy with Ryan’s heroics. She thinks he should have been a little more careful in his battle with the bad guys because now she has to deal with the fact that her best friend is a hero who just got shot in the leg, which means he can’t go out by himself anymore, which means she won’t get any more time alone together like before. After all, now they’re always together at school or hanging out at home or whatever else people do when they aren’t fighting crime (because it’s their job).

Conclusion

I am not sure how Ryan will fare in his new life. I think he will need to make some adjustments, but it is a big step for him and one worth taking.
